The Campus Master Plan will establish a long-term vision for buildings and open space for the St. John’s and Signal Hill campuses, and will include guidance to inform the design of future development. It will also help the university to identify and prioritize future approaches and projects for these campuses, including:

  • Protecting natural systems and reintroducing landscape back into campus open spaces, courtyards, and pathways;
  • Promoting the year-round campus experience through a greater diversity of campus indoor and outdoor programs and spaces;
  • Improving the design of campus entrances to improve the sense of arrival and to clearly articulate university spaces from surrounding areas;
  • Reimagining campus streets, paths, and trails as a vital, integrated and people-scaled campus network to improve safety and mobility;
  • Balancing all modes of travel for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, and motorists; and
  • Creating a safe, accessible, and legible campus through lighting and signage.

The Campus Master Plan Update is a three phase project with an estimated completion date of April 2022.
